Every week we spotlight one awesome blogger who links up with us in the previous week! Our way of thanking you for sharing your fabulous/fun/fitness style!

This week’s featured blogger: Toni from Running, Loving, Living

Link-up Suggestions:

Remember if you don’t link up, we can’t choose you to be next week’s featured blogger!

We are so excited to see all the fashions that are shared each week!

On Wednesday of this week I went with a pretty preppy/professional look for work:

Street 1Street Outfit CompleteStreet Shoes 2Street Shoes

Skirt & Blouse – H&M

Tank Top – Aeropostale

Cardigan – Eddie Bauer

Shoes – Apt. 9 by Kohl’s

My sweat outfit this week is very exciting because I FINALLY have a REAL yoga outfit. I’ve been wearing running clothes to yoga, since I didn’t have a real yoga outfit. Now, some true yogi’s might not consider this a real yoga outfit either because it came from Victoria’s Secret – but they designated it as yoga, so I am too.

So Much Goodness

13 Apr

Happy Friday friends! It going to be an AMAZING weekend! I’m going to fill you in on what I have going on, so consider this a little teaser post because I will have TONS to tell you about next week!

First up, I did really well in the eats department again today! My mom went grocery shopping (yay mommy!), so there’s lots of fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, and other yum yums in the house now! I won’t bore you to death with the deets of every meal, since that’s not really my thing, but you do have to see this gorgeous salad I had for lunch.

Now, about this wicked awesome weekend.

First up is a giant FitFluential/Saucony LOVEFEST! Saucony is hosting an Evening of Running Inspiration with an All Star Panel. If you are in Boston and have no plans for the evening you should definitely come to this! There are some amazing speakers, a tribute to the late Caballo Blanco, and a reception highlighting Saucony Kinvara 3 (You KNOW I’m all over that!). It is a 21+ event (in case you were wondering).

While I’m there I get to meet at least half a dozen (if not more) fellow FitFluential Ambassadors – I am STOKED for this. I also get to see Amy again, who I met back in February at the Half at the Hamptons, and my friend Veronica who I don’t get to see enough!

Tomorrow is my low-key day with a planned 8-mile run, LOTS of studying, a nice dinner with (and prepared by) my little bro, and some baking!

And then there’s Sunday, which is a day I have been looking forward to for a few weeks now! Me, Jess, and Jess are hosting a “Boston Marathon Blogger Brunch!” It’s another day of new people to meet! Plus I get to see Jess, Jess, and Jo again! If anyone is around and wants to join us, e-mail me and I’ll give you all the deets on where we’re going!

After brunch I am attending my very first Barre N9ne class with Jess and Jo, then crashing Jess’s crib for a dinner (that I hear is going to be amazing) prepared by her wonderful hubby! Jo and M are joining us for dinner too so I just know it’s going to be tons of fun with some of my favorite friends.

And then, can you even stand it, really? This is so much freakin’ awesome to pack into one weekend.

MONDAY IS THE BOSTON MARATHON! If you are running, I’m at Hydration Station #5, which is approximately Mile 5.2.  I AM BEYOND EXCITED – not only for my first Boston Marathon attendance, but for the opportunity to give back to the running community in this way. I’ll fill you all in next week on what I am sure is going to be an incredible, fulfilling experience.

Phew! That’s a helluva lot of stuff huh?

I hope everyone else has an awesome weekend! I’m sure I’ll be tweeting out some pics here and there so make sure check my feed if you want teasers before the full posts next week!

Sweat to Street Week 4

25 Mar

Have we really been doing Sweat to Street for 4 weeks already?! Where does the time go?

Welcome to Sweat to Street Sunday’s!

Each week my fabulously fit co-hosts and I will link up with one everyday outfit AND one fitness outfit that we love!

This week’s featured blogger: Becca from – I heart Eggs!

Link-up Suggestions:

Remember if you don’t link up, we can’t choose you to be next week’s featured blogger!

We are so excited to see all the fashions that are shared each week!

This week it WAS summer in New England, so of course I wore summer clothes!

Flip flops and skirt: Old Navy (I’ve had this skirt, BTW, for over 7 years!)

Cardigan – Ann Taylor Loft

Shirt – Not sure of the brand, but I bought it at Kohl’s

And for sweat, today I wore my new North Face shorts and Nike top. Remember last Monday I was trying to decide between three pairs of shorts? I chose the North Face ones for the length and so far so good! I also ended up with this Nike top rather than my typical Asics singlet because they didn’t have it in the color I wanted. More on the shorts after I wear them for a run longer than 2 miles!

Giving Back

16 Mar

I’ve been running for almost 2 years now. (Where does the time go?)

In those two years I’ve run 22 races (say WHAT?).

In those two years I’ve worked  0 races. (Bad.)

That’s all about to change:

Boston Marathon Volunteer Acceptance

I am volunteering at the BOSTON MARATHON!!!! I am beside myself with excitement. I didn’t do this on my own though – to be honest, I had no idea how to get in on a volunteer gig for any race, but now that I do, I plan on doing it more often.

I’d like to send a huge thank you to Janine from The Purple Giraffe.  She is a fellow FitFluential Ambassador, fellow beer lover and runner, and all around awesome gal. (Remember, I had the pleasure of meeting and having lunch with her in February after the Half at the Hamptons). She wrote about this opportunity on Facebook a while back and I jumped all over it. Thank you Janine! I can’t wait for April 16th.

So, if you are running the Boston Marathon, look for me at Hydration Station Number 5!

See you on April 16th!

Have you ever volunteered at a race before? What was your experience?

Weekend Workouts

14 Feb

Alternate titles for this post: “Defeating Mother Nature” or “Meteorologists are Overpaid and Don’t Know What They’re Talking About”

I went to bed Friday night, completely prepared to be running by 7 a.m. because, according to the local weathermen, “Rain, turning to snow, heaviest beginning around 10 a.m., through the afternoon.”

Given that it was 50 out on Friday, I knew I had a good chance of getting my last long run in before New Orleans before the snow covered the ground, it wasn’t even supposed to drop below freezing overnight. I planned on going to a bike path, so I would be safe from the road crews. Boy was I surprised when I got out of bed at 5:40, and looked out my bedroom window:

THE GROUND WAS COVERED IN SNOW!

Say what? That wasn’t supposed to happen. So I went back to bed, not wanting to risk slippery conditions a week from one race and three weeks from another.

I still got my long run in! How you ask (Knowing how much I loathe the treadmill – I did not run all of my miles on the treadmill).

Coachy helped me with this workout concept last winter when I was training for the Charlottesville half. All of you New Englanders know how crappy last winter was – there was NO WHERE to run outside. So next time Mother Nature tries to foil your plans to run outside, try this instead:

Arc Trainer Intervals
Pin It

Arc trainer intervals. This workout is great because when the resistance is way up, it really ramps up your heart rate. With the resistance down, and the incline up, you give your heart a chance to recover while really working the quads.

Then I did this:

Treadmill Workout
Pin It

I was supposed to do 3 tempo miles at race pace – but my legs said no. I had already done two tempo runs in 3 days, so I listened and just threw in the quarter miles at race pace to break up the monotony of an otherwise steady state treadmill run.

——————————————————————————————–

Mother Nature tried her hardest to screw with me on Sunday as well. This time in the form of freezing cold temps and wind. I hate wind.

Windy Cold Run

Wonder what happened at Mile 5? A 116 foot climb STRAIGHT into the wind. I felt like I wasn’t moving. If I couldn’t see the houses and everything else on the road pass as I went by I would’ve been convinced I really wasn’t moving.

I am feeling really awesome about the rest of this run though! To keep paces like that the day after a 2 hour stint at the gym? It used to be unheard of for me. I was actually holding sub 9 from 3-3.5 miles, until I hit the beginning of that dreadful hill that killed my mile 5. It was all I had in me to stick to pace and push out a 9:20 for that mile.

The moral of this story? Be damned Mother Nature. We runners are a hard core bunch and will ALWAYS find a way to defeat you.

How did your workouts go this weekend?

Tag You’re It

2 Feb

Well I was it first… and you, yes YOU, will be when I’m done.

The MF Dre tagged me in this 11 Things About Me Post that a lot of other bloggers have been participating in. It sounds fun, so here goes!

Rules:
1. Post these rules.
2. You must post 11 random things about yourself.
3. Answer the questions set for you in their post.
4. Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
5. Go to their blog and tell them you’ve tagged them (or Twitter, isn’t that easier? I’m changing this rule to go to Twitter and tag them).
6. No stuff in the tagging section about you are tagged if you are reading this. You legitimately have to tag 11 people.

11 Random Things About Me

  1. I cannot stand it if a document has more than one staple in it. I will take every single staple out of a pile of papers and resecure them with one staple.
  2. I sing along to every song on the radio while driving. Loudly. And I actually know the words – I have a strange ability to learn the words to every song I hear. Been that way most of my life.
  3. I would rather wear a skirt or dress than pants. (So of course I’m grateful that so far Mother Nature has blessed us with a mild winter).
  4. I drive with the windows down and the heat up in the car when it’s semi-warm out.
  5. I’m wicked claustrophobic. (I won’t even use the bathroom on an airplane).
  6. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. You may not always know the reason, or you may not want to know the reason, but there’s a reason.
  7. I am a total bookworm. I am always reading. Right now I’m working on 11/22/63 by Stephen King.
  8. I’m afraid of heights but I love roller coasters. I’ll stand in line for a roller coaster and freak out, and continue to freak out until that very first big drop, then I’m super happy and screaming, and when I get off the ride I want to go again. But not without repeating the super freak out attack.
  9. I’m obsessed with built-in bra tank tops, especially the ones from Aeropostale.
  10. I don’t do anything half-assed. If I commit to a project, a workout, a run, you name it…I see it through to the end and pour my heart and soul into it.
  11. I would rather have a few close friends that I can turn to for anything, and do anything for them, then a whole bunch of acquaintances who are just there to be there.

MF Dre’s Questions for Me

  1. In what moment of your day do you feel most free? When I leave work – as soon as my work day is over, the rest of the day is MY time to do whatever I want to do!
  2. Brag for a moment about one of the accomplishments you’re most proud of. Completing my first marathon, but not just because it’s my first marathon – because I had to contend with 2,135 of total elevation gain while doing it!
  3. You’re having a dinner party.  How many people are you inviting and what would you make? 4-6 people, tops. I like small, intimate parties. What I make totally depends on who I invite – I have foodie friends, then I have simple taste friends.
  4. Do you prefer to work out in the morning? At night? Not at all? In the morning in the spring/summer, at night in the fall/winter.
  5. Which reality TV show has succeeded in sucking you in season after season? American Idol
  6. What is the most random thing you put Peanut Butter on? More like, what do I NOT put peanut butter on.
  7. Would you prefer to live a long life or a broad life? Broad
  8. Prius.  Love ‘em or Hate ‘em (regardless of the fact that anyone who drives one is a horrible driver) They’re hideous.
  9. What song are you embarrassed to say you love? Love You Like a Love Song – Selena Gomez
  10. Valentines Day? Love it or Hate it?  And what should I do for the Mr? I love love so I love it, but I have no one to love right now so I guess I don’t care…
  11. What is your best advice for me in my first full Marathon this year? Do NOT worry about time. Just cross the finish line, it doesn’t matter when.

And finally…My Questions for YOU

  1. What is your #1 go to workout song?
  2. If you had to choose 3 foods to eat for the rest of your life (and nothing else) what would they be?
  3. If you were given an unlimited vacation budget – but it had to be used on ONE trip – where would you go and why?
  4. What are you more afraid of: snakes or spiders?
  5. Puppies or kitties? Do you have any?
  6. What dead rockstar would you bring back if you could?
  7. What is the most random thing you collect (or have collected?)?
  8. What one article of clothing (or accessory) do you have to wear every single day?
  9. If you could only eat FRUITS or VEGGIES, but not both, which would you choose?
  10. Beach or mountains? Why?
  11. What is your favorite band EVER?

So now, who do I tag, really? I’m so wicked late to this game that a ton of people I would have tagged have already been tagged…

Jess (EatDrinkBreatheSweat)

Jolene (Determined. To Be…)

Heather (Where’s the Beach)

Coachy (aka Jim) (Run Bike Surf)

Jess (30 Something MotherRunner)

Meaghan (Miles, Miles, and More Miles…)

The First One

29 Dec

Hey everybody! Can you believe it’s Thursday already? Here I am, blogging away from my new site – so exciting!!

I titled this post the first one for two reasons

  1. Although I transferred all of my other posts from Blogger over already, this post is my first WordPress post. Woot! Pardon the appearance while the site is still under construction – I am going to work as fast as I can to make it beautiful.
  2. Tonight I ran my first training run for Marathon #3 and Half-Marathon #6.

Wait what did I just say? Yup, half-marathon #6. It didn’t take much to talk me into this one. Half at the Hamptons Half Marathon at Hampton Beach, NH.

  1. “As of right now, the elevation guide we have shows this to be the flattest course in New England for a half marathon.” (From race site) Can we say hello to a sub 2-hour half marathon finally? I hope so. This race will be long run #8 for Marathon #3 training so I’d like to think this is a good possibility.
  2. After Race party including hot soup, Lindt Chocolate and BEER.. in the classy Ashworth Hotel Ballroom. Does this even need an explanation?
  3. One friend is running, another I may be able to talk into it, another is spectating, and yet another I’ve yet to meet.

So it’s going to be New Hampshire in February which means cold – but it’s flat, I’ll be in good company, and there’s beer and chocolate afterwards. Woohoo!

Prepare yourselves now for the barrage of marathon/half-marathon talk that will be coming from me in the next 64 days.

Goodnight my friends!
