This is a Test

28 Jun

Hey everyone! It’s Thursday night and I think I am just about where I want to be design wise. Just about because I want a custom header, I want some custom social buttons, and there are a few tweaks here and there that I want to make, such as figuring out how to transfer all of my subscribers over…

What do you guys think?

I really like this new theme – it’s so pretty and elegant. I love the script writing and all the pretty colors… LOL

That’s about all you’re getting out of me tonight – I just wanted you to know that I am still alive, and my blog is 100% back up and running.

Have a lovely weekend – I’ll be back at you sometime in the very near future with my most recent training updates.

*Hint: they’re REALLY good!*

Just Call Me Grace

19 May

Today has started out MUCH better than yesterday did! Let me back up a bit though…

Thursday night I went out for my friend Jen’s birthday. What originally started as dinner turned into dinner and drinks at the pub down the street from her house.

Isn’t she adorable?

The pub we go to is so cool, they have a beer club, and for every tier in the club you reach (they track which beers you drink, and give you a list of what’s left to try) you get prizes! I think it’s going to take me a while to get a prize – especially because they serve pumpkin beer year round and I just can’t resist:

Needless to say I didn’t make it very far into my list because I had to drive, and it was a work night. That didn’t stop us from staying at the bar until 1 a.m. – whoopsy!

So yesterday morning when I got up at 6:30 a.m. I was DEAD. So dead in fact that I slipped and fell down the stairs. That’ll wake you up.

I managed to get up and stumble my way into the kitchen – that was a hard fall, I felt so sick suddenly I had to sit down. It was then I noticed my pinky and was immediately convinced I had broken my finger:

It’s hard to tell from the pic, but the bottom half of my pinky is twice it’s normal size. That, a stiff neck, and a bruised/scraped up elbow seem to be the worst of my injuries. Thanks to my parents for taking care of me by giving me juice for my stomach and ice for my finger!

4 1/2 hours of sleep will do that to ya. Luckily I didn’t hurt any running muscles. I’m a bit stiff this morning, but I’m sure that’ll loosen up once I start moving around.

In other news, you guys know how much I love Saucony, right? I certainly blab on and on about my Kinvara’s enough (not to mention all of their clothing that I own)! Well, I stalk browse their career sight on a weekly basis, hoping and praying they’ll have an opening that I am qualified for.

GUESS WHAT? Yesterday, I found one. Everyone send good vibes, cross your fingers, do a little “new job” dance, or whatever else you may want to do for me. I would do just about anything to work for Saucony. Getting my foot in the door with a position that I am well qualified for would be a fantastic start to a dream come true!

(And, being the complete geek that I am, I tweeted that I had found/applied for this position and the peeps behind Saucony’s twitter account FAVORITED it. Perhaps that is a good sign?)

I realize this is a totally random all over the place post but I have to tell you guys about one more thing:

Larabar Tweet

I’ve also tried the apple turnover one and it is equally amazing.

I gave my mom the Cherry Cobbler one to try and she said it’s deeeeeeeeeliscious!

If you can get your hands on these, do it. They’re fruity, they’re nutty, they’re a perfect snack! Thanks Larabar for sending these my way!

Okay, that’s enough random rambling for a Saturday morning. I’m taking Lexi to the beach today – she’s never been, and it’s going to be a beautiful day!

Have a great Saturday my friends!

Weekend Countdown

11 May

*Disclaimer: I straight up stole the entire concept of this post from Tina. I read hers today and fell in love with it. Here’s my spin!*

Hey hey peeps! It’s FRIDAY! 8 p.m. on Friday and I’m blogging – woo, go me.

I kid, I kid. I love blogging, duh. I also love being home on a Friday night.

What is this weekend countdown that I so lovingly stole from Tina and am now putting to my own words? Looky here and see:

Blogger friends turned in real life friends that I cannot imagine life without:

1) Jess

2) Jolene

3) Meaghan

4) Christine

5) Whitney

These girls impact my life every single day, and I am blessed and grateful that I can call them friends.

Number of days I took off of working out this week until I decided it was high time to schedule a workout. Today would’ve been that workout – but I forgot and slept in. Tomorrow I am going to 7:30 a.m. Sunrise Power Yoga. I think that is a perfect way to start the weekend!

Here’s where I completely copy Tina (can you tell I’m not feeling very original tonight?). Instagram pics of the week:

A view of Providence from the State House Steps

Wicked good snack

Glasses of wine tonight. Pinot noir. I almost exclusively drink red wine. Once glass #2 is gone (I’m working on it now) it’s back to hydration time! My sunrise power yoga just happens to be hot yoga.

Quote of the day:

That is all my darlings! I hope everyone had a fantastic Friday. Enjoy the rest of your night!

Thursday Randoms

3 May

Hey everyone! It’s 10 p.m. already – where did the day go! A few random shorty things and I’m off to bed.

1) I got a haircut tonight – the only difference is I added short bangs. What do you think?

Me New Do

2) I have a job interview tomorrow. Yup. A new job (doing what I do now), in a new place, near my favorite friends. Wish me luck!

3) I have some WICKED awesome guest posts set up for you starting tomorrow morning – you do not want to miss them, any of them, stay tuned!

4) Clean Eating Week 3 is going smashingly! I was really admiring my abs in the mirror the other day, and realizing how much better I feel! I’m loving it.

Speaking of clean eats – you guessed it, time for another giveaway. I hope you guys aren’t tired of the mega celebrations that have been going on this week. I also hope ya’ll come back to read when I’m not throwing tons of fun presents at you!

This giveaway is in the form of my favorite must have daily snack:

From the first time I discovered Larabar I was in love.

These babies are:

  • Gluten Free
  • Vegan
  • Safe for peanut allergies (except for the flavors that contain peanuts)
  • Soy free (except for flavors containing chocolate chips)

Many Larabar varieties contain just 3-4 ingredients! My favorite flavor is Peanut Butter & Jelly – it’s made with dates, peanuts, and cherries. And I kid you not it tastes like a PBJ. Amazing, really. I eat one 5 or more days a week. Sometimes I eat 2 (Like today).

So, how can you get your hands on a case of 16 Larabar flavors? Easy.

Here’s how:

1) Follow me on Twitter. (Required)!/runcupcake

2) Follow Larabar on Twitter. (Required)!/larabar

3) Go to the Larabar website and tell me which flavor you’d like to try most. (Optional)

Rainy Days and Mondays

23 Apr

Aren’t going to get this girl down! I woke up this morning bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to hit the gym.

Okay that’s a lie. I snoozed my alarm until 5:30 and realized I better get up or I won’t get my entire session in, dragged my butt downstairs for some coffee, then got dressed and ready to hit the gym.

Bright Eyed Bushy Tailed

Once I was at the gym I was really ready and hit the weights with authority! I did Day 1 of my Upper Body Strength Workouts for the sixth week! I’m going up in a couple of weights again next week, but some exercises still have me at the same weights I started at. My shoulders are weak – but I think they’re coming around. I also threw in 60 crunches – some of my runner friends and I are doing a 100 pushup/100 crunch a day challenge, for 4 weeks. We’ll see if I can make it. Right now I’m at 50 pushups and 60 crunches for the day.

I no sooner stepped into the shower when I realized “Oh, shit, I forgot my bra and underwear.” No joke. While I bathed I thought of all possible scenarious – drive home to get my undergarments, go without them, go home and just stay home (that would’ve been the case if I went home – rainy, dreary, cold Monday is a recipe for the couch, tea, and soup, right?).

I could’ve been pissed off for being so forgetful, but instead, I laughed and was grateful my outfit would work with the missing underthings. You see, since the weather was crummy, I was wearing pants (rather than my typical skirt), and I had also brought a built-in bra tank top to wear under another top that was going under a caridgan.

Crisis averted. My coworkers were none the wiser. What would you have done?

*Side note: Around noon I received a package, which I promptly threw under my desk to take home and open later. What was in this package? Bras and underwear. Is anyone else laughing as hysterically as I am right now?*

The day almost panned out to be a typical work day – but then I got an e-mail from WordPress requesting me to approve a Pingback on a post. This post in particular.

And who was posting about this post? RUNNER’S WORLD! The post is called “Boston Race Reports from the Blogosphere.”

CAN YOU EVEN STAND IT? I’m stoked – I feel like a cool kid being mentioned by Runner’s World Magazine. I’m still in shock, excited, running around like a hyped up monkey.

Me, mentioned by Runner’s World. ME! Little ol’ Running and Cupcakes me. A year ago, when I started this blog, I never imagined cool things like this would happen. Smile

This post is wicked all over the place, hyper, crazy. I think I’m on a duck sauce sugar buzz from the Chinese food I had for dinner (talk about a mega craving, glad I satisfied that…).

And my final hyperactive spastic thing for tonight:

Giveaway Week Banner

That’s right – Giveaway WEEK. Starting next Sunday, on my one-year blogiversary, I will be hosting epic giveaways, thanks to some super generous brands. Brands that will remain a secret until their designated giveaway day!

There may even be a super duper bonus giveaway straight from yours truly.

You do NOT want to miss this!

It’s going to be a fun week over here in Running and Cupcake land – just as I start to rebuild my mileage, I’m going to have to start tapering (wah!).  I get to hang out with Coachy, Jess, Jo, and their boys, plus RI Jess, and one of my best high school friends and her husband. I’m going to be off the wall next week.

Be prepared. (Am I the only one that sings that, a la Lion King style?)

Okay that’s enough nuttiness for one night. I hope everyone had a fantabulous Monday!

Kreativ Blogger Award

21 Apr

Good morning! I’m sitting sipping my coffee and getting ready to chow down some breakfast pre-10 miler. The lovely Heather from Where’s the Beach nominated me for this award. Of all the blogs out there, I was one of her choices, thank you SO MUCH! Smile

The premise behind this is to share 7 things about me, then pick other bloggers to share their 7 things. Well we all know I like to talk about myself, so here goes!

1) I am a very messy person, but only in hidden areas like closets, cabinets, my bedroom, etc. Otherwise, I’m a neat/clean freak.

2) I have a pretty large collection of shot glasses – which is funny because I can’t really do shots. Hard alcohol forced at an alarming rate of speed into my body does not go over well.

3) I get nervous before every single race. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve done it, or how prepared I am, or the distance, the nerves kick into high gear and I have to channel that nervous energy or I’ll freak myself out completely.

4) I love going to casinos – but I don’t gamble (unless it’s bingo). I love going for the restaurants, shops, drinks, and of course people watching.

5) I am a hard core friend defender. I get so fired up if someone insults a friend, or does something else. Like, livid…I can’t even stand it. But if someone insults me, I’m the first person to write it off as “Oh, it’s no big deal, they’re just insecure or being an a-hole.” Hmm…

6) I would really love to live in Chicago some day – but I don’t know if that’ll ever happen because I can’t stand being away from the ocean. I lived in Iowa for a year, and just about died (drama much?) because I couldn’t go to the beach for an entire summer. (And, sorry Chicagoans, but Lake Michigan is not “the beach” to this East Coast Girl – if it ain’t salt water, it ain’t the beach).

7) The idea of running without my Garmin stresses me out, but I want to embrace it too (for easy runs, fun runs, etc. not runs where I have goal paces, intervals, etc.) Any advice for overcoming this would be much appreciated!

Now, I have to nominate a few people to do this. It’s so hard to choose when there are so many people in blog land that I’d like to know more about! I say:

Christine – These Happy Miles

Andrea – The MF Dre

Heather – Running with Sass

Charlotte – Wild Things Run Free

There, that’s a good list – all awesome blogs and people who are different from me and each other!

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my little world, now I must get dressed and get ready for my first double digit run since New Orleans!

Tell me: do we have anything in common? Advice for running Garmin-less and NOT stressing? Who would you nominate for this award? Too many questions for 7:30 on a Saturday morning?

Monday Love: Random Style

9 Apr

Hey everyone! I hope everyone had a great Easter (if you celebrate!) and weekend! My weekend was super busy – filled with cooking, cleaning, yard work, family time, and of course me and mom found time to squeeze in a pedicure too! I have a brain full of randomness to share with you in this edition of Monday love!

1) New (to me) chips. They’re like healthy Doritos – and SO YUMMY! Do you see that 16g of whole grains per SERVING?! And a serving is 13 chips, you can’t go wrong!

Healthy Doritos

2) Trying my hand a cupcake decorating. As much as I love to bake cupcakes, I’ve never really gotten into decorating because I didn’t have the tools. I did get a pretty cool decorating toolbox for Christmas, perfect for making carrots on top of carrot cupcakes (which, my brother raved as “Your best cupcakes ever.” Why thank you little bro.)

Carrot Cupcakes

3) Never “fully” growing up. Yesterday I was blowing bubbles with my cousin’s daughters (and trying to teach her 14 month old son how – all he wanted to do was eat the bubble wand). Today I found some delicious “kids” bars at the grocery store. Kids or not, these things are delicious, and the perfect pre-workout fuel. And I like them way better than grown up Clif Bars.

Clif Z Bar

4) Spending lots of time in the kitchen. I spent more time in the kitchen this weekend than I have in a long time. I baked cupcakes, I made quinoa stuffing with leeks and cherries, I basted asparagus in olive oil, sea salt, and fresh cracked pepper then grilled it, and I roasted tomatoes and garlic (for the fun of it, the tomatoes were going to go bad, and I love the smell of roasted garlic).

Food Collage

5) Family time. I spent pretty much all day Saturday with my mom – we cooked, cleaned, cleaned up the yard, and got pedicures. Then yesterday was spent with both my mom’s and stepdad’s family. We don’t often get both sides of the family together on a holiday – and while it was a bit chaotic (my parents house is a little cramped when there’s 17 people {and 2 dogs} in it), it was great. Everyone ate, drank, chatted, laughed, and just had a fun time together.

6) Pain free (fast) running. I set out for 6 miles yesterday, uncertain of what I was going to do/how it was going to go. My legs felt great after my warm up so I decided on 4 mile repeats, then a cool down. I stretched, rolled, and iced post-run, and I feel great today. I still have at least 4 more physical therapy sessions to attend, but I think it’s already working wonders.  If only it could help with my breathing, which is a little off due to high pollen counts/not much running. I plan on re-introducing interval style speedwork this week to begin rebuilding my lungs. It shouldn’t take much.

Mile Repeats

You know the drill – tell me what YOU are loving on this Monday!
