Playlist Thursday: Sounds of Summer

21 Jun

It’s Thursday again already! While I’m out getting my run on early in order to avoid the 100 degree temps we’re expecting, I present you with yet another episode of Playlist Thursday.

This time we’re talking Sounds of Summer – after all, yesterday was the first day of summer!

How it works (in case you’re new here, or forgetful LOL)

Three songs, one post:

Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.

Something Old:

Artist: DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince

Song: Summertime

Oh yes, I went there. I so went there. I was also ten when this song came out – really?

Fave Quote: “Summer, summer, summertime, Time to sit back and unwind” That’s what summer’s about, isn’t it?!

Something Current:

Artist: Calvin Harris

Song: Let’s Go

Not necessarily a summer themed song, but this song is blowing up right now, and I’m feeling it for a theme song at this very moment.

Fave Quote: “It’s not about what you’ve done, It’s about what you doing, It’s all about where you going, No matter where you’ve been.”

Something to Consider:

Artist: The Ataris

Song: The Boys of Summer

Yes, this is a remake of the Don Henley song, but it kicks ass. They add enough of a punk influence to modernize it and keep your moving!

Fave Quote: “A little voice Inside my head said, "Don’t look back. You can never look back." Exactly.

What songs are you loving for summer?!

Playlist Thursday: Inspiration

14 Jun

I have to thank Pavement Runner again for introducing me to this weekly series of his – being the giant music lover that I am, I’m having loads of fun with this!

How it works (again, in case you forgot!):

Three songs, one post:

Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.

This weeks theme: Inspiration. What songs inspire you with fantastic lyrics? Get you moving during a long day, a hard workout, a tough spot in race?

Here are mine for the week!

Something Old:

Artist: Rush

Song: One Little Victory (Especially this version, I hit play on YouTube and got insta-goosebumps)

This song isn’t that old as far as Rush music goes – it’s off of Vapor Trails, which came out in 2002. One reason I love this band so much is because they are so good at progressing their sound with the times.

Fave Quote: “Celebrate the moment, As it turns into one more, Another chance at victory, Another chance to score.” (Kinda says it all, doesn’t it?)

Something Current:

Artist: Gym Class Heroes

Song: The Fighter

This came on during mile 4 of my 7 mile run the other day. The final three miles of this 7 mile run are the hardest miles in this particular loop, lots of up, very little down/flat. I just ran my heart out while covered in goosebumps – it was truly an incredible feeling.

Fave Quote: “Give em hell, turn their heads, Gonna live life til we’re dead., Give me scars, give me pain.”

Something to Consider:

Artist: Dropkick Murphy’s

Song: Tessie (The Live on Landsdowne version is way better – again I may be biased – but I couldn’t find video)

Maybe it’s the giant Boston Red Sox fan living inside of me that finds this song inspirational, but it’s a great pick-you-up song no matter what!

Fave Quote: “We’re not here to mess around”

What songs inspire you?

Playlist Thursday: All Pop, All the Time

7 Jun

Are you ready for another edition of Playlist Thursday? I most certainly am – I think this may become one of my fave new weekly posts!

Since I’ve only done this once, here’s a little reminder as to how it works:

Three songs, one post:

Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.

The theme of my Playlist Thursday for this week is All Pop, All the Time. I’ve been OBSESSED with listening to Today’s Hits Radio on Pandora. At work, in the car, at home, you name it, hence my inspiration for this post.

Something Old:

Artist: Montell Jordan

Title: This is How We Do It

Oh yes, I went there! Can you guys believe this song is from 1995? Wow.

Fave Quote: “You gotta get your groove on, before you go get paid…”

Something Current:

Artist: Usher

Title: Scream

I love Usher! Ever since the days of “You Make Me Wanna” (hello, 1997? where does the time go…seriously…). This song is no different, it just screams (hah! no pun intended) RUN! MOVE! And it features Jay Z., which is always a win in my book.

Fave Quote: “Got one life, just live it, just live it” (Amen, Usher!)

Something to Consider:

Artist: The Fray

Title: Heartbeat

I wouldn’t normally consider The Fray as music that I’d like to run to – but this song has a great beat for a mid-tempo run!

Fave Quote: “We gotta keep on running ’til we see the sun” (There are days I feel like I could/should do that!)

What are you listening to this week? Anything new for me to consider?!

Playlist Thursday

24 May

Friend, fellow FitFluential Ambassador, and all around awesome runner/blogger guy, Pavement Runner, does a series on his blog called “Playlist Thursday". I participated last week by adding my ideas to the comments on his blog, but he told me I should really participate so here goes!

playlist-thursday-logo

Yes, I stole his logo – I don’t think he minds Winking smile

Here’s how it works (From Mr. Pavement’s post):

Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.

I’ve been on a wicked techno/hip-hop/anything extremely upbeat kick lately so I’m using that as a basis for my post:

Something Old:

Artist: Rusted Root

Title: Send Me on My Way

Try staying still when this song is on. I dare ya

Fave quote: “And we will run, we will, we will crawl, we will”

Something Current:

Artist: Flo Rida

Title: Good Feeling

The title really says it all, doesn’t it? Running makes you feel good!

Fave Quote: “Got adrenaline, never giving in, Giving up’s not an option, gotta get it in”

Something to Consider:

Artist: Alter Bridge (I am out to rid the world of people who haven’t heard of Alter Bridge, one person at a time. This band is amazing, by far one of my favorites).

Title: I Know It Hurts

Not only is this song rockin’, but you really think if you’re running a hard race/run that he’s talking to you!

Fave quote: “We all fall sometimes you’re not the first, But I know it hurts,
Yeah I know it hurts”

What’s on your playlist? Do you like the Alter Bridge song? Do I have to force more upon you to turn you into a fan? Winking smile
